Asante Kotoko have parted ways with head coach Eric Tinkler with immediate effect after the Porcupine Warriors suffered a humiliating 2-0 home defeat to 10-men Aduana FC.
The club’s Board of Directors said on Monday, September 28, 2026, that it had agreed to Tinkler’s request to be released from his contract for “personal reasons”, bringing his short spell in charge of the Kumasi giants to an abrupt end.
The decision comes just less than 24 hours after Kotoko were beaten 2-0 by Aduana FC at home on Sunday, September 27, despite the visitors playing with 10 men.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Board, A. K. Osei-Owusu, the club said it had engaged Tinkler in negotiations in an attempt to prevent his departure at this stage of their relationship.
“Earlier on, both parties engaged in meaningful negotiations to avert the decision at this time of the relationship between the parties but finally had to respect Coach Tinkler’s decision,” the club said.
Kotoko, however, stressed that professionalism, commitment and focus remain central to its ambitions, signalling the high expectations surrounding the technical team as the club seeks to meet its performance targets.
“The Club maintains that professionalism, unwavering commitment and total focus are crucial to achieve the key performance indices it has set to meet its present objectives,” the statement added.
The club thanked Tinkler for his contribution during his relatively brief tenure, describing him as professional and committed to the success of the Porcupine Warriors.
“The Club is grateful to Coach Tinkler for his professionalism and commitment to the success of the club during his rather short stint with the Porcupine Warriors and wishes him well in his next endeavours,” Kotoko said.
With Tinkler now out, the club says it will not abandon its sporting plans. The technical team is expected to continue implementing the club’s strategy under the leadership of Director of Football, Stanley Purl Menzo.
The abrupt departure adds further significance to Sunday’s damaging home defeat, in which Kotoko failed to take advantage of Aduana’s numerical disadvantage and were punished by the visitors.
For the Porcupine Warriors, the focus now shifts to stabilising the technical setup and keeping the club’s sporting objectives on course following Tinkler’s immediate exit.
