Asante Kotoko to resume action after Nana Pooley’s Funeral

Asante Kotoko Communications Director Samuel Sarfo Duku has confirmed that the club will resume activities after the final funeral rites of their devoted supporter, Francis Frimpong, affectionately known as Nana Pooley.

Nana Pooley tragically lost his life after being stabbed during a Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman FC in Nsuatre on February 2, 2025. Following the incident, the club suspended all first-team activities as a mark of respect for the fan, widely recognized as Nana Pooley.

However, the team resumed training last week after discussions with the Ghana Football Association and the Ghana Police Service.

“In light of the circumstances, I would like to announce that Asante Kotoko will return to action after the final funeral rites of the late Nana Pooley,” Sarfo Duku said during a media briefing on Monday.

He explained the decision, saying: “We have players to pay and a CAF schedule to adhere to. Our fans are kept informed about every step we take, and they actively participate in meetings with all stakeholders.”

Sarfo Duku also addressed rumors of a rift with Nsoatreman FC following the tragic events in Nsoatre, revealing that Kotoko has not received any official communication from Nsoatreman regarding Pooley’s passing.

“We are not at odds with Nsoatreman. We are one community, united in the pursuit of justice. The incident has occurred, and we are committed to ensuring justice is served. Nonetheless, we remain a family and will work together to prevent such tragedies in the future,” he said.

“There has been no formal communication from Nsoatreman, and we are still waiting for their response,” he added.

In the meantime, over five people have been arrested in connection with Nana Pooley’s death, including Nsoatreman’s Bankroller, Ignatius Baffour Awuah.
