Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, departed Ghana’s shores on May 3, 2023, on his way to London, where he would attend the coronation of King Charles III and the Queen Consort on May 6, 2023.
The Asantehene will be joined by his wife, Lady Julia, and will attend at the invitation of the Royal House.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Lady Julia would join other monarchs and world leaders at Westminster Abbey for what was anticipated to be a feast of pageantry marking the first coronation in more than 70 years, according to a statement released prior to his departure and signed by Kofi Badu, Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace.
The Asantehene and Lady Julia would be received by King Charles in a private audience at Buckingham Palace on May 4, 2023, according to the statement made before the coronation.
According to the statement, they would also be present for the King’s ceremonial reception for out-of-country visitors on May 5, 2023.
