Ashaiman Operation Was Sanctioned By Military High Command – Brid. Gen. Aggrey Quarshie

The Ghana Armed Forces has indicated that the Military High Command sanctioned the operation at Ashaiman following the unfortunate alleged murder of one of their colleagues, Trooper Sherrif Imoro.

The private officer according to reports was allegedly murdered by an unidentified gang at the dawn of Saturday, March 4th, 2023. The deceased, the Military reveals was stationed in Sunyani but came to Accra for a course who then sought permission to visit his parents at Ashaiman where he grew up.

In a statement released by the Ghana Armed Forces signed by Brigadier General Aggrey Quarshie, the operation sanctioned by the High Command was an intelligence-led one aimed at fishing out the culprits of the heinous crime.

The statement added that the operation was not to avenge the killing of the soldier but acknowledged that some innocent persons were caught up in the act.

“Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) also wishes to place on record that the swoop was not targeted at innocent civilians but was an intelligence-led operation conducted on suspected hideouts of criminals and crime-prone areas in the general area. GAF however acknowledges that regrettably some innocent persons might have been caught in the operation and consequently suffered some distress due to the location they found themselves at the time,” portions of the statement read.

In all, about 184 suspects aged between 21 and 47 have been arrested waiting to be handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further screening and action.
