Ashanti NPP Youth reject Bryan Acheampong, back Bawumia for Flagbearer

Some constituency youth organizers of the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region have launched a sharp attack on flagbearer hopeful Bryan Acheampong, accusing him of poor leadership and unethical conduct during his time as a government minister.

The group says they believe the former Agriculture Minister’s actions in government contributed to the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

At a press conference in Kumasi on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the youth organizers said Mr. Acheampong’s alleged involvement in the controversial attempt to purchase SSNIT hotels, his management of the Agriculture Ministry, and his comment that the NPP “would not hand over power” all painted a negative image of the party.

They argued that these issues, coupled with what they described as a campaign filled with “lies and unfair accusations” against other candidates, make him unfit to lead the NPP.

“The actions and utterances of Bryan Acheampong go against the values and traditions of our party,” said Bright Nyampong, Youth Organizer for Obuasi West. “If he becomes our flag bearer, we risk mass defections, voter apathy and growing disillusionment, especially among the youth and farmers who already feel betrayed.”

Out of 94 constituency youth organizers and deputies in the region, 62 have declared their support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the most credible and unifying figure to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections.

They said their endorsement was based on Dr. Bawumia’s integrity, competence and inclusive leadership style, which they believe offer the best chance for the NPP to regain public trust.

The group is urging party delegates to give Dr. Bawumia a resounding endorsement when the NPP holds its flagbearer election on January 31, 2026.
