Ashanti Regional Minister denies involvement in galamsey, threatens legal action

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has vehemently dismissed claims that he is involved in illegal mining activities, locally known as galamsey.

Dr. Amoakohene described the allegations as “false, unfounded, and intended to misinform the public.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, Ashanti Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene said the allegations were made during an interview on Accra-based Aluta FM, with Mr. Wendell Yeboah, Head of Mobilisation at Democracy Hub, on Tuesday, 18 November 2025.

According to him, Mr. Yeboah claimed that he was engaged in illegal mining.

“I wish to state firmly that I have never engaged in any form of illegal mining,” the statement read.

He further urged the public to “disregard this claim in its entirety.”

His lawyers have reportedly commenced legal steps requiring both Mr. Yeboah and Aluta FM to provide evidence supporting their accusation or to retract the statement and issue an apology.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene warned that failure to comply will trigger a legal action.

He further emphasized his commitment to the fight against galamsey in the Ashanti Region and across Ghana.

“I will continue to discharge my duties with integrity, transparency, and unwavering dedication to the public good,” he noted.
