The National Association of Institutional Suppliers (NAIS) has announced plans to embark on a peaceful picketing exercise at the Ministry of Education on June 11, 2026, over the government’s failure to settle outstanding payments owed to its members.
According to the Association, suppliers are owed approximately GH¢50 million for the provision of uniforms, house dresses, and school cloths to public Senior High Schools under the Free SHS programme.
In a statement issued by the Association, NAIS said its members have not received payments for services rendered since 2023 despite several attempts to engage the relevant authorities on the matter.
The Association noted that the prolonged delay in payment has caused significant financial hardship for suppliers, many of whom are struggling to sustain their businesses and meet operational obligations.
NAIS explained that the planned demonstration is intended to draw the government’s attention to the issue and press for the immediate release of the outstanding funds.
“The picketing aims not only to draw the government’s attention to our plight but also to urge the immediate release of funds owed to our members,” the statement said.
The Association further indicated that the continued non-payment threatens the ability of suppliers to continue providing essential services to schools across the country.
NAIS has called on the media and other stakeholders to support its efforts by highlighting the concerns of affected suppliers and advocating for a swift resolution of the matter.
The Association says it remains hopeful that the government will take urgent steps to settle the debt and prevent further disruptions to the supply chain supporting the Free SHS programme.
