Former Ghanaian footballer Augustine Ahinful has called for urgent reforms in the way clubs are treated during long-distance travels.
Speaking to Original TV, Ahinful expressed deep concern for the safety and well-being of players, stating that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the organizers of the league must prioritize the welfare of clubs, especially when it comes to travel arrangements.
“Our leaders must ensure that clubs are given proper rest, including overnight stays, when they travel long distances for league matches,” Ahinful said. He went on to emphasize that players need adequate rest to perform at their best and to avoid the physical toll that long journeys can have on them.
Ahinful also highlighted the need for increased security for clubs, especially after matches, to protect players and staff from potential threats. His comments follow the alarming incident where Frimpong was shot while traveling back to Berekum after a league game. Fortunately, Frimpong survived, but the event has raised serious concerns over the safety of players on the road.
“After such long and tiring matches, players need to travel back in peace and security,” Ahinful added. “The GFA must ensure that proper measures are in place to protect them.”
