Ayawaso East By-Election: Koku Anyidoho Applauds EC’s Voting Arrangements

Certified international elections observer Koku Anyidoho has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) in the ongoing Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election.

Speaking from a polling station in the constituency on Tuesday, March 3, Anyidoho praised the Commission — also known in technical terms as the Election Management Body (EMB) — for what he described as an efficient and well-coordinated process.

According to Anyidoho, the EC has exceeded expectations in its organization of the poll.

“I’m happy. The EC, on top of its job — when I got here, the materials and personnel were already deployed. They were set up in good time,” he said.

He noted that election materials arrived early and polling officials were properly positioned before voting commenced — a key indicator of credible electoral management.

Anyidoho highlighted two critical standards that international observers typically assess during elections.

The first is the positioning of voting booths to guarantee voter privacy. The second is the placement of ballot boxes in visible areas to ensure transparency as voters cast their ballots.

“I think that these basic things are standing tall as far as the EMB is concerned,” he added.

His remarks suggest that the voting arrangements in Ayawaso East align with internationally accepted best practices.
