Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, has expressed deep disappointment over recent remarks made by Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), suggesting that Northern Ghanaians are somehow “punished Ghanaians.”
In a post on his official Facebook page, Dr. Afriyie said, “I never knew the good Ghanaians, and the many great Northern brethren we have grown, lived and worked with, either hailing from Northern Ghana or living in Northern Ghana, are the punished Ghanaians says an NDC Minister. I am very sad!!!!…Madam, you don’t have to be sacked, just resign. I admire women in politics but I will never let my daughter get close to you. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh!!! Sad day!!!”
According to Dr. Ayew Afriyie, such statements undermine national unity and fail to recognize the significant contributions of Northern Ghanaians to the country’s development.
The MP, known for his candid approach to Ghanaian politics, further stated that the Minister does not need to be dismissed but should resign voluntarily.
He added, “I admire women in politics, but I will never let my daughter get close to you. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh! Sad day!”
The MP called on the minister to take responsibility for her comments, urging that resignation would be a more honorable step than continuing in office. He added that, while he respects women in politics, he personally could not endorse her leadership, stating that her words reflect a mindset that is harmful to the cohesion of Ghanaian society.
