Babaso Chief rallies farmers to stay committed despite challenges

The Chief of Babaso, Nana Osei Kwadwo Ansebie, has urged farmers to remain confident in their work and continue producing food for the nation, despite falling prices and climate pressures.

The call was made on 15 February 2026 during the Cow Slaughter Festival, a biennial celebration of the people of the Babaso traditional area led by Nana Osei Kwadwo Ansebie, who is also the Nifahene of the Ejura Traditional Council.

Addressing the gathering, the chief praised farmers for what he described as their resilience and dedication to sustaining the country’s food supply. He acknowledged the difficulties they face, including the recent low prices of foodstuffs such as maize and beans, climate variability and environmental degradation.

Despite these challenges, he commended farmers for continuing to work the land and ensuring that families across the country have food on their tables.

He encouraged them not to lose hope, assuring them that their efforts remain vital to national development and food security.

Nana Osei Kwadwo Ansebie also singled out cocoa farmers for special praise, describing their contribution as central to the nation’s economic backbone. He said their unwavering dedication continues to support livelihoods and drive growth.

The festival also featured spiritual reflections led by the Chief Priest, Nana Kwadwo Addae, widely known as Komfo Joe Boye. In an interview, he explained that traditional leaders use such occasions to express gratitude to the ancestors, strengthen unity and seek blessings for the future.

According to him, the ancestors remain the foundation of the community, offering guidance and protection through proper rituals and collective respect.

He appealed to residents to listen to the counsel of the traditional authorities and honour their ancestral values in order to build a peaceful and prosperous community.

The Cow Slaughter Festival remains a significant cultural event for the people of Babaso, bringing together tradition, gratitude and renewed commitment to development.
