Bagbin touts Ghana’s Anti-Corruption reforms at Global UN Meeting

Ghana has reaffirmed its place in the global fight against corruption, with Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin highlighting the country’s reforms and leadership at the United Nations’ largest anti-corruption conference in Doha, Qatar.

Addressing the 11th Conference of States Parties (CoSP 11) to the UN Convention Against Corruption, Bagbin said Ghana’s approach is grounded in strong political leadership, preventive reforms, asset recovery and institutions that can withstand pressure. He stressed that transparency and accountability remain central to the country’s democratic governance and development efforts.

A key moment at the summit was Ghana’s role in securing the first-ever UNCAC resolution on transparency in political party financing and election campaigns. Working alongside Norway, Albania and Mongolia, Ghana led negotiations that affirmed the public’s right to know who funds political parties and election activities, a move widely seen as a significant step toward curbing corruption in politics.

The conference, held under the theme “Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” brought together governments and institutions from around the world to assess progress and chart new strategies against corruption. It concluded with the adoption of the Doha Declaration 2025, which reinforces international commitment to stronger transparency, accountability and integrity in democratic systems.

Ghana’s contributions, delegates noted, underscored the importance of cooperation among countries in addressing corruption that increasingly crosses borders.
