BAWKU: World Environment Day marked with electric bike ride

As part of World Environment Day 2026 celebrations, residents of Bawku joined officials from the Forestry Commission, community leaders, environmental advocates, and riders in a symbolic “Ride for Clean Air” campaign. The initiative highlighted the message that meaningful climate action can begin with simple, everyday choices.

Participants rode electric bikes, an eco-friendly mode of transportation that produces no exhaust emissions, helps reduce air pollution, and lowers carbon emissions associated with climate change. The ride demonstrated how clean mobility solutions can contribute to healthier communities and a cleaner environment.

Beyond the ride, the event provided an opportunity for discussions on environmental conservation, climate responsibility, and sustainable living practices. To support local reforestation efforts, officials from the Forestry Commission distributed 200 tree seedlings for planting across various communities. Each participant received at least one seedling to plant and nurture at a location of their choice.

The activities reinforced a growing awareness in Bawku and beyond that individual actions whether choosing cleaner transportation or planting trees can collectively make a significant contribution to building a greener and more sustainable future.
