Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for unity and forgiveness within the party as it moves forward from the recent election season.
Speaking at the National Thanksgiving Service at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Dr. Bawumia urged party members to set aside any lingering resentment and focus on healing. He emphasized that reconciliation is vital for the NPP’s strength and success in the future.
“I ask all of us, from the bottom of my heart, to forgive each other for the things that may have hurt us during the campaign,” Bawumia said. His message highlighted the importance of moving past any unpleasantries from the election period, which often saw heated exchanges between party members. According to the NPP leader, forgiveness would foster the collective unity needed for the party to reorganize and chart a new course for the future.
Despite acknowledging that the healing process is not yet complete, Dr. Bawumia expressed hope and encouragement, pointing to the efforts already made by several members who have reached out to one another. “Though we’re still on the path to complete reconciliation, we have started well, and I commend all patriots for taking the necessary steps,” he added. His message resonated deeply with the gathered supporters who were eager to see the NPP overcome its internal challenges and emerge stronger.
The call for unity comes at a critical juncture for the NPP, as it prepares to face future elections and solidify its place in Ghana’s political landscape.
By putting aside personal grievances and focusing on common goals, Bawumia believes the party can chart a more inclusive and successful path forward. His appeal for unity was a central theme of the thanksgiving service, which aimed to reflect on the party’s journey while also setting the stage for its next chapter.
