Former Vice President and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has identified keys factors that attributed to the party’s defeat in the general elections.
Speaking during the party’s Thank You Tour at the Takoradi Technical University, Dr. Bawumia cited the high cost of living, arrogance of power, failure to reshuffle government officials, and the introduction of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) and the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) as some of the reasons for the party’s loss.
“The prices of goods and services went up and left many Ghanaians struggling,” he noted.
“We were not willing to listen, and the party members told us to conduct a reshuffle, but after eight years, we didn’t listen,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia also mentioned that the party’s internal divisions and lack of effective campaigning in key regions, such as the Western Region, contributed to the defeat.
“The NPP as a party was not fully united, and the opposition NDC was playing back our language against each other back to us,” he added.
