Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has expressed concern that some supporters of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia may be doing more harm than good to his political future through divisive and immature tactics.
In an interview with the media, Mr. Bempah raised red flags over what he described as “childish and propagandist attitudes” by some members of Dr. Bawumia’s camp.
He was responding to circulating rumours linking the camp of Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, to the arrest of Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who is currently in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Mr. Bempah dismissed claims of a rift between Kennedy Agyapong and Chairman Wontumi, describing them as “very close friends.” He emphasized that attempts to create division between the two are baseless and dangerous to party unity.
He pointedly criticised a section of Dr. Bawumia’s supporters, warning that their conduct risks damaging the Vice President’s credibility and future within the NPP.
“Some of these vampire-like supporters are pushing propaganda that may ruin Dr. Bawumia’s political career,” he said.
He questioned why the former Vice President would allow himself to be associated with what he described as destructive political gamesmanship within the party, noting that the NPP needs unity and maturity, especially in the lead-up to the 2028 elections.
Owusu Bempah’s remarks reflect the growing unease within the NPP over internal factions and the impact they may have on the party’s chances in the next elections.
