The Head of Information and Public Affairs at Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Nuong Faalong, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party that Bawumia winning the presidential race is only the first step, saying the party still faces serious internal and policy challenges ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Metro Tv’s Good Morning Ghana after Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s decisive victory in the party’s flagbearership race, Faalong said the outcome was widely expected, but warned that it should not be mistaken for a guarantee of electoral success.
She said it was obvious Bawumia was going to win the primaries, but stressed that the NPP has a lot of work to do among itself if it hopes to retain power in 2028.
According to her, internal divisions and unresolved tensions within the party could weaken its chances if they are not addressed early.
Faalong also pointed to gaps in policy messaging and the weight of current economic pressures, noting that these issues continue to shape public perception of the governing party.
While congratulating Dr Bawumia on securing the party’s mandate, she urged party leaders and supporters to focus on unity, rebuilding trust, and presenting clear solutions to the concerns of ordinary Ghanaians.
