BE/R: Chieftaincy tensions mount in Kadue as youth warn of impending conflict

Tensions are rising in Kadue, a town in the Pru East District of the Bono East Region, as youth demand urgent intervention from authorities to prevent possible conflict over a chieftaincy dispute.

In a press interaction on Tuesday, June 24, Akwasi Anane, spokesperson for the Kadue Youth Association, expressed growing concern over what they describe as an unlawful installation of a Benkumhene by the Paramount Chief of Yeji, against the will and knowledge of the local community.

According to Anane, the people of Kadue have long recognised Nana Lanta V as their rightful chief, having been enstooled in 1982.

The recent involvement of the Yeji Manhene in local chieftaincy matters, the youth argue, has disrupted the peace that once existed in the community.

“Our town has not known peace since the Yeji Manhene began meddling in our affairs.

“This is not just a traditional matter anymore, it’s threatening the safety and unity of our people.” Anane stated

The youth are calling on the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council, the National House of Chiefs, and the National Peace Council to intervene swiftly and restore order before tensions escalate.

Adding to their frustration, some residents voiced disappointment in the Member of Parliament for Pru East, Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Buam, accusing him of failing to honour his campaign promise in 2024 to help resolve the dispute.

“Our leaders must act now,” Anane warned.

“We don’t want bloodshed, but if nothing is done, the consequences could be severe.”
