Bernard Ahiafor and Collins Dauda take oath as members of Pan African Parliament

Two Ghanaian MPs have been sworn in as members of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) in South Africa, marking another step in the country’s active role in continental affairs.

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, and Asutifi South MP, Collins Dauda, took the oath of office today at the PAP headquarters in Midrand, Johannesburg. Their induction places them among legislators from across Africa who work to promote unity, democracy and good governance on the continent.

Bernard Ahiafor, who represents Akatsi South, is a lawyer and a long-serving member of Ghana’s Parliament. He has chaired several committees, including Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, and has built a reputation for his firm grasp of legislative processes and advocacy for rule of law.

Collins Dauda, a veteran lawmaker and former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, has served in Parliament since 1993. Known for his deep understanding of local governance and development issues, he has played a key role in debates on decentralisation and rural development.

The Pan African Parliament, established in 2004 under the African Union, serves as a platform for African legislators to contribute to the continent’s integration and development. Ghana’s continued representation in the body reflects its longstanding commitment to regional cooperation and parliamentary democracy.
