Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bibiani GoldStars, Akwasi Adu, believes that the leadership of football clubs can eliminate hooliganism if they behave responsibly and educate fans about the outcomes of matches.
The budding CEO accentuated on the importance of hiring public relations professionals who can effectively communicate with fans, rather than placing blame on the game, officials, or opposing teams, which often fuels fan hostility.
“If the leadership of clubs conducts themselves properly, it can help shift the mindset of supporters. We need professional PR in sports discussions to change the dynamics that lead to hooliganism,” Adu stated in an interview with King Kaninja on Original FM.
Adu also stressed that errors by officials are part of the game, referencing European football where, despite the use of modern technology like VAR, mistakes still occur.
“No club is immune to benefiting from poor officiating. Even in Europe, where VAR is used, it sometimes gets decisions wrong. Going forward, we should encourage fans to be patient with referees.”
Recently, Nsoatreman FC has come under scrutiny following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Nana Pooley during a Premier League game. Akwasi Adu urged the media to help the club restore its image by focusing on positive coverage.
“I also urge the media to adopt a more positive outlook on Nsoatreman. For instance, yesterday, I was actively involved in ensuring that they played their match with Samartex peacefully, yet I came across reports online claiming they were chased by gunmen. This kind of misinformation only fuels unnecessary tension. Let’s shift the focus to more positive discussions,” he added.
