The Ghanaian national amputee team also know as the black challenge have a solid reputation in this competition. They entered the competition as the defending champions and they also won the gold medal at the inaugural African Paralympic Games which was staged in Ghana in 2023.

With all these accolades they had one mission in their first group game and that was to beat Gambia and show why they are the defending champions. The black challenge completed this mission expertly by beating their Gambian counterparts by four goals to nil yesterday. They got off to a quick start when Hamza Mohammed scored in the 4th minute of the game to put the black challenge ahead. From there on they dominated the game and four minutes before half time, Yussif Yahaya scored the second goal to further ascertain Ghana’s dominance. At half time it was clear to see why they were the defending champions, as they had a comfortable 2-0 lead to their name.

They started the second half just like they finished the first half with two quick fire goals from Mubarik Mohammed in the 47th and 49th minutes of the game putting the final result beyond reasonable doubt.

As the game went on Ghana had a few more chances to add to their lead but it was not to be as the game ended with Ghana comfortably winning by four goals to nil. Mubarik Mohammed deservedly went on to win the man of the match award after his brilliant performance which was capped off with a brace.

The four goals scored by the black challenge means that they currently sit at the top of group C with three points just like Algeria however Ghana has the better goal difference. All attention now shifts to tomorrow’s game with Algeria which will not be easy by any means.

With both teams currently having three points a win for either team will ensure that they book their place in the next round of the competition. Ghana will be hoping to win the game and go all the way to defend their title.
