Kwadwo Baah-Agyemang has urged Ghana to prioritize a long-term rebuilding strategy for the Black Stars following the team’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Former Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Kwadwo Baah-Agyemang, has called on Ghana to adopt a long-term rebuilding plan for the Black Stars after their elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana’s campaign came to an end following a hard-fought 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 16, with Jhon Arias scoring the decisive first-half goal to send the South Americans into the quarter-finals.
Reacting to the Black Stars’ performance, Baah-Agyemang said the team’s display at the tournament showed the need for a sustainable development strategy rather than a focus on immediate success.
“From what we all watched, we should not aim at immediate success. I believe we should have a long-term plan for the Black Stars, and that will help the team to succeed,” he told Asempa FM.
He stressed that while every nation desires success, lasting achievements can only be built through proper planning and consistent player development.
“Everyone wants to succeed, but you need to have a plan, and with the situation of the Black Stars at the moment, the team needs a long-term plan,” he added.
Although Ghana’s World Cup journey ended in the Round of 16, reaching the knockout stage represents the Black Stars’ best performance at the tournament since their historic quarter-final run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The Black Stars will now shift their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin later this year. Ghana has been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, Gambia and Somalia as they aim to secure a place at the continental tournament.
