The President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has lambasted Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame for his handling of a dispute over an oil field, resulting in Ghana’s loss in international arbitration.
According to Cudjoe, the Attorney General’s “overbearing and incompetent” approach led to the country’s defeat, despite efforts by local stakeholders like IMANI and ACEP to offer solutions.
“He refused to engage local stakeholders, didn’t attempt an amicable settlement, and instead rushed into international arbitration, spending millions of dollars on expensive lawyers,” Cudjoe wrote on Facebook.
Mr. Cudjoe questioned the government’s position, which demanded that Eni and Vitol relinquish 55% of the oil field, calling it “ridiculous” and “reckless”.
“He thought he could use his ‘win at all cost’ approach in international arbitration too… Today, Ghana lost! What a shame!” Cudjoe exclaimed.
He called for the Attorney General to show contrition and mend his ways, warning that his actions could plunge the country into chaos.
“We need to see some contrition from the Attorney General. Else, one day he will plunge this country into the abyss with his dangerous disinterest in justice and fairness,” Cudjoe said.
