Blame lack of international labels for GH musicians not filling big auditoriums – Kobby Kyei

Musicians in the Ghanaian music space have been poked recently with the issue of how they have been unable to market themselves into becoming international brands as their Nigerian counterparts are actively engaging in.

The local musicians not filling the big auditoriums and amassing crowds is also a subset of the whole issue.

Renowned Ghanaian blogger, Kobby Kyei, has partially attributed these developments to the lack of international record labels for the local artistes.

In an interview with Original TV, Kobby Kyei disclosed that most of the Nigerian artists seen with international following and affluence have signed on to international record labels such as Sony, Empire, and other known labels globally.

“Burna boy is highly affiliated to big labels and has been able to connect himself to record labels recognized internationally so when he performs a concert or produces a song, it is able to scale high on the charts,” he said.

He further questioned how many top Ghanaian musicians have penetrated the Western world’s market.

“If you listen to international stations such as BBC and other top TVs, how often do you see Ghanaian musicians appear on those stations for Interviews like Davido and Wizkid?” he quizzed.
