Abdulai Mahmud has been confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Bole District Assembly in the Savannah Region securing 87 percent of the total valid votes cast .
The confirmation took place under tight security, with personnel from the military, police, and immigration deployed a day before the event.
Despite facing opposition from some youth groups who held a press conference and protest on last week Friday, Mahmud’s confirmation was largely successful.
Abdulai Mahmud garnered 34 “Yes” votes and 4 “No” votes out of the 39 total votes.
In his acceptance speech, he thanked the president for the nomination and expressed his commitment to driving development in the municipality.
Comparatively, Mahamoud’s confirmation surpasses the vote count of his predecessor, Veronica Alele Heming, who polled 26 votes out of 38 in 2017.
The Savannah regional minister Salisu Bia Wurbe urged the assembly members to work in proximity with the MCE to ensure development of the municipality.
