Executives of the Bono Regional Mobile Money Agents Association have visited victims of the recent robbery at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality, calling on the police to speed up investigations into the attack.
The association’s regional chairman, Michael Appiah Boateng, secretary Abdul Razack Bawa and regional organiser visited the affected agents to sympathise with them, offer financial support and assess the impact of the robbery on their businesses and wellbeing.
One of the agents who was injured during the attack has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering.
Police in the Bono Region have arrested nine suspects in connection with the robbery, which took place on Wednesday evening.
Speaking during the visit, Mr Boateng urged the security agencies to expedite their investigations so that those responsible could be brought to justice.
He said the victims had suffered both physically and financially and deserved a swift response from the authorities.
Mr Boateng made the call in an interview with Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani based Ark FM.
The association’s regional secretary, Mr Bawa, urged mobile money agents to treat the Fiapre incident as a warning and take greater precautions to protect themselves and their businesses.
He encouraged members to attend regular association meetings, where they could receive information on security measures and other practical ways of reducing risks while operating.
Mr Bawa also appealed to mobile money agents who are not yet members of the association to join, saying membership could provide them with support during difficult situations.
