Bosoma Market women cry out over health hazards

Traders at the Bosoma Market in Sunyani, Bono Region, are expressing fear and discomfort over the location of their stalls under high tension electricity cables and towers.

The market, which operates every Wednesday, attracts traders mainly women from the region, selling various goods and commodities.

However, they have been ordered to evacuate a large portion of the market square, leaving them struggling for space under the high tension cables.

The traders lament that they were made to pay between GH¢350.00 and above for stalls during the COVID-19 pandemic, only to be evicted less than two years later by the Sunyani Traditional Council, which intends to build market stores for them.

The traders appealed to the authorities to find a lasting solution to their problems, citing unbearable conditions, including narrow pathways, refuse, and human excreta in the fenceless trading square.

In an exclusive interview with Metro TV, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ansu Kumi, revealed that an ultra-modern market square complex project is ongoing to ease congestion and improve movement.

The project, sponsored by the municipal assembly, is estimated to cost between GH¢16 million and GH¢17 million and is expected to be completed in six months.

The project will include commercial lock-up stores, a police post, fire service station, washrooms, health center, banking halls, and a creche, among others.

The MCE assured that the project will prioritize the security and safety of the market, and everything will be accomplished on time for normalcy to prevail.
