An 11-year-old boy drowned in floodwaters at Abrepo Bronikrom in the Bantama Constituency of Kumasi on Saturday after he was swept away while trying to retrieve his flip-flop, residents have said.
The boy, who lived with his grandmother, was carried off by strong currents when he slipped into a flooded ditch. Despite frantic efforts by residents, his body has not yet been recovered.
According to community members, they have searched the site repeatedly, even inviting a fetish priest to perform rituals, but the search has so far been unsuccessful.
“We have visited the scene about three times and even a fetish priest performed rituals. We were directed to a spot, but we couldn’t find the body. We have postponed the search to tomorrow,” one resident said.
The family, together with the local assemblyman, has reported the case to the Bohyen police station. However, residents say they are still waiting for further intervention from authorities.
The incident has left the community in grief as the search continues.
