Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has dismissed claims that he only won a single Zongo polling station in the 2024 elections, describing the allegation as propaganda meant to mislead.
Speaking during his tour of the Ashanti Region, the New Patriotic Party presidential hopeful said a rival aspirant, Dr Bryan Acheampong, had suggested he performed poorly in Zongo communities. But according to Dr Bawumia, the records tell a different story.
“Recently, one of the presidential aspirants said Dr Bawumia won only one Zongo polling station in Effutu constituency. He said the whole country. Did you hear that propaganda? I said let us get the data and make it public. To my surprise, after we checked, I even won in that aspirant’s own Zongo community,” Dr Bawumia told party delegates at Fomena.
He listed several polling stations in Fomena and other constituencies where he secured victories, including Ahmadiyya SHS A and B, Bekwai, Sewabi Fishpond, Subin Ahmadiyya Primary and others. He added that while the NPP did not win all Zongo polling stations nationwide, the 2024 results showed significant gains compared to 2020.
“So why is this propaganda? People talk without data because they want to gossip. Gossiping does not need data. You just say it and it goes viral. But if you bring your gossip to me, I will stamp my feet on the ground and confront you with the data,” he said.
Dr Bawumia is on a three-day constituency executives engagement in the Ashanti Region, covering the Adansi, Amansie and Asante Akyem zones. At meetings in Adansi Asokwa, Bekwai and Konongo, he urged delegates to remain united and keep faith with his candidacy, arguing that history shows opposition parties return to power faster when they build on the popularity of their last presidential candidate.
“With the support of all party members, and a united front going into 2028, the choice of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer is a proven path back to the Jubilee House. I am prepared, formidable and winnable,” he said.
