The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a 36-year-old businessman over alleged involvement in cyber-enabled sexual exploitation and the non-consensual distribution of intimate content.
The suspect, identified as Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, also known as “So African,” was arrested at East Legon in Accra on May 6, 2026, following what police described as an intelligence-led operation conducted by the CID’s Cyber Crime Unit in collaboration with the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
Addressing a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, CID Director-General, Lydia Yaako Donkor, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly operated a Telegram platform known as “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025.”
She alleged that the suspect used substances believed to include alprazolam, commonly referred to as Xanax, to sedate unsuspecting women before sexually assaulting them, recording the acts, and distributing the videos online without the victims’ consent.
According to the CID boss, investigations further suggest that the suspect allegedly targeted victims at various nightclubs, where he is believed to have drugged and abused them before sharing the explicit content on digital platforms.
Items retrieved during the arrest included two iPhones, a feature phone, a memory card, a Seagate external hard drive, a MacBook laptop, an iSafe device, and empty sachets suspected to have contained alprazolam and midazolam.
The CID said the electronic devices had been secured for forensic examination, while the sachets would be analysed by the Food and Drugs Authority to determine their contents and classification.
COP Donkor said the suspect had since been arraigned before court, adding that investigations were ongoing.
She reiterated the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to combating cyber-related sexual offences and urged the public to report similar incidents to the appropriate authorities.
