The newly-installed queenmother of Gomoa Essel Kwamekrom, Nana Adwoa Essoun, has pledged to tackle teenage pregnancy in her area.
The Queenmother, who was sworn in at the Gomoa Fetteh Palace, is worried about the increasing trend of teenage pregnancy in the area, which according to her, is eroding the bright future of young girls.
While attributing the canker to poverty and irresponsible parenting, she stressed the urgent need to battle the problem to secure the future of young girls.
She pledges to establish systems that would support both the formal and vocational education of young girls as well as aid the prosecution of persons who violate the sexual and reproductive rights of girls.
Nana Adwoa Essoun was installed as the first Queenmother of Gomoa Essel Kwamekrom by kingmakers of the community, following her verification as the rightful candidate being a member of the royal family.
Swearing before the Gomoa Fetteh Chief, Nana Abor Atta II, Nana Essoun pledged her allegiance and submission to the stool.
