C/R: Thirteen arrested as police crack down on crime at Senya Beraku

Police have arrested 13 people in a coordinated operation across parts of Senya Beraku in the Central Region, as authorities intensify efforts to curb drug-related and other criminal activities.

The Central East Regional Police Command carried out the intelligence-led operation on December 17, targeting three locations believed to be hotspots for criminal activity.

The first stop was Kukwado, a coastal area where six suspects were arrested with substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other items.

Police later moved to a yellow house near a cemetery in the same area, where four more suspects, including a woman, were picked up. Items retrieved there included dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, locally brewed gin known as akpeteshie, a 32-inch television set and assorted brands of cigarettes.

The operation continued at Awiaso, where three suspects, including a woman, were arrested. Police retrieved additional dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a toy gun, shisha, local gin and a game pot. The hideouts used by the suspects were later set ablaze by the police team.

Those arrested are Michael Essel, 23; Frederick Koranteng, 23; James Essel, 24; Jones Koranteng, 20; Daniel Essibu, 30; Kofi Abbiw, 28; Kofi Essibu, 57; Klotey Poree, 26; Bismark Sarbeng, 26; Kojo Otoo, 24; Thomas Quartey, 22; Gladys Jackson, 19; and Florence Adenue, 25.

Police say all suspects, along with the seized items, are currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
