The draw for the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) took place on Monday, 27 January, in a star-studded ceremony at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat.
The 24 teams that qualified were placed into six groups, each with four teams, ahead of the tournament set for 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 in Morocco. The tournament will be held across six cities and nine stadiums.
Hosts Morocco lead Group A and will face Mali, Zambia, and Comoros. Egypt, with a record seven AFCON titles, are in Group B with South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe.
Nigeria takes on Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania in Group C, while Senegal, the 2021 champions, will play DR Congo, Benin, and Botswana in Group D.
Algeria, 2019 champions, will compete against Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, and Sudan in Group E. Defending champions Cote d’Ivoire will face Cameroon, Gabon, and Mozambique in Group F.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, along with the four best third-placed teams.
The draw was broadcast in over 90 countries, with African legends Serge Aurier, Aliou Cissé, Joseph Yobo, and Mustapha Hadji assisting in the ceremony.
This will be Morocco’s first time hosting the tournament since 1988.
