The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that Egypt will be the new host for the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This decision follows the Ivorian Football Federation and the Government of Côte d’Ivoire informing CAF of their inability to host the tournament due to unforeseen circumstances.
The Egyptian Football Association and the Egyptian Government had previously submitted a bid to host the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
A total of 13 countries will compete in the tournament, with four aiming to secure a spot in the World Cup. Group A consists of former hosts Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania, and a second representative from the UNIFFAC region.
Group B includes Nigeria, host nation Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa. Reigning champions Senegal will face off against Zambia, Kenya, and Sierra Leone in Group C.
The opening match of the tournament will take place on Sunday, 27 April 2025, with the final scheduled for 18 May 2025.
