Ghanaian coach Maxwell Konadu believes Carlos Queiroz deserves the opportunity to continue as head coach of the Black Stars, insisting that the Portuguese trainer can help restore discipline and improve the national team.
Queiroz was appointed on a short-term basis to lead Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the Ghana Football Association parted ways with former coach Otto Addo.
However, following Ghana’s elimination at the Round of 32 stage of the tournament, expectations were that the experienced Portuguese coach would leave his position.
Recent reports, however, suggest that the 73-year-old has been offered a two-year contract extension to remain in charge of the Black Stars.
Speaking in an interview with TV3, Maxwell Konadu welcomed the possibility of Queiroz continuing as Ghana’s head coach, arguing that the team could benefit from having more stability under the veteran coach.
The former Asante Kotoko manager believes discipline is one of the major areas the Black Stars need to improve, and he feels Queiroz can help address that issue.
“We have seen what he can do. Maybe if he stays around for some time, our team will improve. For me, discipline will improve in the team, and that is what we need in Black Stars currently. When discipline is there, the team will play well,” Maxwell Konadu said.
Reports indicate that should Carlos Queiroz accept the proposed two-year deal, one of his major targets will be to guide Ghana to success at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Black Stars have endured a difficult period in recent years, with expectations growing for a return to major tournament success after decades without winning the AFCON title.
Konadu believes continuity and improved discipline could provide the foundation needed for Ghana to rebuild and compete strongly on the continental stage.
