Cease taking unauthorized BECE registration fees – GES to public headteachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has warned head teachers of basic schools to stop charging unauthorized fees for the registration of final-year students for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

In a statement signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of the Public Relations Unit, the GES stated that “these fees are unauthorized, and all Heads are advised to cease this practice immediately”.

Regional Directors have been instructed to alert District Directors to monitor the situation closely and caution school heads.

Any headteacher who has already collected such fees must refund them promptly, or face sanctions.

The GES reminded school heads that late registration of candidates will not be permitted, and all eligible candidates must be registered within the stipulated registration period set by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
