Cecilia Abena Dapaah, a former Minister of Sanitation, has refuted claims that she owns a real estate firm and employs aliases to conceal her business dealings.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) presented the accusations in court records, accusing her of having an unregistered and concealed real estate firm.
The records further claimed that she possessed unaccounted-for huge cash sums of money, which her housekeepers allegedly availed themselves to, and that she lacked documentation that the aforementioned sums had been properly disclosed and subject to any required payments.
Kofi Mensah, Dapaah’s personal assistant, asserted that the OSP’s accusations were untrue and that the case was being tried on the basis of public opinion.
He denied the claim that Dapaah runs a real estate business under a “fake identity,” and he asserted that the only real estate activity she had been involved in was buying an apartment at the Kpone affordable housing program for her deceased mother, which she later opted to sell.
Concerning the bank account that was supposedly still sending her money, Mensah clarified that it was there to accept the memorial gifts made in memory of her late brother and that those gifts were later used to form an account for her.
Mensah urged the populace to treat the accusations with the scorn they merit and urged the OSP to stop using the media to hold its trial.
He also brought up the fact that Dapaah’s spouse often receives money from those whose construction projects he oversees.
“Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah has never owned a real estate business. She bought a Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) apartment at Kpone affordable housing scheme for her late mother and later decided to sell it off. How that translates to her owing of a real estate business beats human imagination.”
Kofi Mensah clarified that the bank was present to take the donations of Cecilia Dapaah’s late brother during the funeral and that immediately following the funeral the gifts were used to register an account. This was in response to the question of why the dead brother’s bank account was still sending Cecilia Dapaah money. The account was signed by Madam Cecilia Dapaah and her older sister, Madam Alice Dapaah.
“Does that warrant a headline that her late brother is signing cheques and sending her money”?, he asked.
“On the issue of the money being hidden in obscure places in the house concealed in wraps and clothes, he retorted that it does not make any sense and that it is a figment of their OSP’s imagination.
“Has the OSP forgotten that the husband of Madam Cecilia Dapaah constantly receives cash from people whose building projects he supervises?
“The public is advised to treat the publications and allegations with the contempt they deserve, The OSP is advised to desist from its fiendish delight in trial by the press”.
