Centrality of government is an agent of corruption ­- Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin

The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin says the centrality of government is outdated hence the need to embrace decentralized government.

He reiterated that the centrality government is an agent of corruption, and lacks transparency, accountability, and truthfulness.

He disclosed this when the Minister for Local Government and Decentralization Daniel Botwe visited the Ofori Panin Fie during his two-day tour inspecting the progress of work of the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Projects, GSCSP in three Municipalities under the programme in the Eastern Region.

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin hinted that rural development carries a lot of weight for the country’s development.

Furthermore, he called on the government to decentralized its activities to bring proper accountability and ownership of government projects in our locality.

On his part, the Local Government Minister explained the importance of decentralization and how his ministry is working towards that.

He said the government has secured 150 million dollars to prevent extremism on the country’s border lines and embarked on 548 projects in 48 districts to improve the capacity and resilience of the people.

Some residents in Lower Manya Municipality who sell and do their activities along one of the roads that were captured as part of the project called on the government to speed up the construction to avoid any disaster.
