The Chief Executive Officer of Servistar Minwax (WA) Limited, Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, has rejected a High Court judgment awarding his company GH¢79.65 million against the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), insisting the amount is far higher than what his company claimed and urging the government to investigate how the figure was arrived at.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Metro TV News, Mr Manly-Spain said his company’s actual claim was about GH¢8.95 million, making the court-awarded sum of GH¢79,651,132.62 both unexpected and confusing.
“The money the court awarded to my company is far bigger than what we filed against the GRA. I am confused about the amount awarded,” he said.
Mr Manly-Spain stressed that he could not, in good conscience, accept money he believes his company is not entitled to receive.
He said Ghana needed every available resource to support critical public services rather than paying out funds that exceeded legitimate claims.
“The state needs money for development projects. Hospitals are crying for equipment, including dialysis machines. I cannot enjoy this money. It is far more than what we filed,” he said.
According to him, he would rather receive the amount his company genuinely claimed than benefit from what he described as an unjustified windfall.
He has therefore called on the government to institute a full inquiry into the circumstances that resulted in the judgment debt increasing to GH¢79.65 million.
The controversy follows a ruling delivered on July 22, 2026, by the High Court, Commercial Division 3, in Accra, presided over by Justice Doris Awuah Dabanka-Bekoe.
The court ordered the Bank of Ghana, acting as the garnishee, not to release GH¢627.1 million held in a refund account belonging to the judgment debtor. Instead, it directed that GH¢79,651,132.62 be paid from the account to Servistar Minwax (WA) Limited in satisfaction of the judgment debt. The court further ordered that the money be paid into the client account of Logan and Associates or transferred directly to the firm’s designated account at Absa Bank Ghana.
The case pits Servistar Minwax (WA) Limited as the judgment creditor against the Ghana Revenue Authority as the judgment debtor.
Meanwhile, the GRA is expected to challenge the High Court’s decision through an appeal.
