CETAG calls off nationwide strike after government pays arrears

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana, CETAG, has called off its nationwide strike after the government paid key outstanding arrears, bringing relief to students and campuses across the country.

The industrial action, which began on November 24, 2025, disrupted academic work in Colleges of Education nationwide, leaving lecture halls empty and academic calendars uncertain. For weeks, tutors withdrew their services, insisting that the government honour agreed financial obligations.

CETAG announced the suspension of the strike after confirming that critical arrears owed to its members had been settled. The association said the decision was taken in good faith to allow teaching and learning to resume, even though some outstanding issues remain unresolved.

Those remaining concerns have been referred to the National Labour Commission for further engagement and resolution.

The end of the strike paves the way for tutors to return to their classrooms and for students to continue their academic work without further interruption.
