A Political Science lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Jonathan Asante Otchere, says the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi must be arrested for engaging in galamsey which has destroyed water bodies and not Kennedy Agyapong for issuing a mere threat.

He said causing the arrest of the Assin Central MP will not bring development.

“Chairman Wontumi comes out with his usual tantrums in the Twi language. It is rather Chairman Wontumi, who is to be arrested for engaging in galamsey. There’s no way causing Ken to be arrested will generate development it will further the disunity,” Mr. Asante Otchere said.

“Wontumi is just like a jailed bird walking around,” he added.

His comments come after Chairman Wontumi threatened to cause the arrest of NPP flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, if he “threatens” his life again.

Speaking on News Night on Metro TV, the Political Science lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Jonathan Asante Otchere also noted that the two prominent members of the NPP are causing harm to the party.

According to the lecturer, the NPP has come to a crossroads and it has pressed a self-destruct button.

“There is an agenda to perpetrate Akufo-Addo ‘s line of faction within the party. Mr. Kufuor spoke about factionalism within the party and the negative effect it is having on the community of the party.

‘They have to sit up. This thing is degenerating into chaos. It is going to get dangerous and even murkier than what we are seeing now because Kennedy Agyapong is not soft and you could see that he’s spoken with all the venom inside of him,” Asante Otchere noted.
