Lawyers for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, have formally initiated plea negotiations with prosecutors over charges linked to an alleged GH¢30 million fraud involving the Ghana Export Import Bank [EXIM Bank].
A filing submitted to the Accra High Court on 11th June 2026, shows that the request for plea negotiations was made through his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, on 5th June.
Chairman Wontumi, together with Wontumi Farms Limited and Thomas Antwi-Boasiako, who is currently at large, is facing charges brought by the state in connection with the alleged fraud and the financial loss of GH¢30 million to the Ghana Export Import Bank.
The court filing marks a significant development in the case, as plea negotiations could pave the way for discussions between the defence and prosecutors on a possible resolution to the matter.
The state alleges that the accused persons were involved in activities that resulted in substantial financial loss to the bank. Proceedings in the case are continuing before the Accra High Court.
