The Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana (CAG) is demanding the immediate dismissal of Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, and his deputies, George Mireku Duker and Akwasi Konadu, over their handling of the galamsey menace.
In a statement on Thursday, September 12, CAG said the detrimental impacts of galamsey activities on Ghana’s environment are alarming.
“We urge the government to cease all galamsey operations immediately and restore degraded lands,” the statement noted.
The groups blame the Lands Minister and his two deputies for their failure to address the critical issue of illegal mining.
“The Minister and his deputies have failed to take decisive action against galamsey, and it’s time for them to go,” the statement added.
“We need a new leadership that will take bold steps to protect our environment and ensure sustainable mining practices,” CAG stated.
The call for the Lands Minister, and his deputies’ dismissal comes after a recent press release by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), warning the devastating impact of galamsey on water bodies in the country.
According to GWCL, galamsey activities have resulted in the depletion of the country’s water bodies.
The Chamber of Agricbusiness Ghana are demanding immediate and decisive actions to combat galamsey, including the cessation of all galamsey operations, restoration of degraded lands, and prosecution of perpetrators.
