Chaos at vetting: Arrest those who destroyed properties - Prof. Gyampo tells IGP Dampare

A senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo, is calling for accountability after chaos erupted at the Appointments Committee meeting on Thursday night.

Prof. Gyampo has urged Inspector General of Police George Akuffo Dampare to arrest Members of Parliament (MPs) who destroyed properties during the clash.

The chaos began when the Majority insisted on continuing the vetting session beyond 10 pm, while the Minority opposed the move.

The situation escalated, with tables and microphones being destroyed, prompting police intervention.

Prof. Gyampo emphasized that MPs who engaged in destructive behavior must face the law, just like government officials and MPs have been arrested for traffic offenses in the past.

“Dear IGP Dampare, you have arrested Government Officials and MPs for traffic offenses before. Ghanaians demand that every member of Parliament who destroyed State Property is arrested and dealt with according to law,” Prof. Gyampo wrote on Facebook on Friday, January 31.

The newly appointed acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority is advocating for every MP involved in destroying state property to be held accountable.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has defended his side’s stance and accusing the Majority of attempting to intimidate them.
