A traditional leader in the Central Region, Nana Kwesi Arhin, has urged politicians to engage in issues-based campaigns ahead of the 2024 elections.
Speaking in an interview with Metro TV, Nana Arhin emphasized the need for a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the elections.
He believes that a comparison of achievements and ideas between the two main candidates, Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia and Former President John Dramani Mahama, will better inform voters’ choices.
Nana Arhin acknowledged the achievements of both candidates and urged them to focus on selling their achievements rather than throwing tantrums at each other.
He stressed the need for Ghanaians to put the country ahead of their political affiliations and consider the peace and development of the country.
The Chief also called for the contest of ideas to be the bedrock of Ghana’s democracy and modern politics.
Additionally, he accepted the apology of NPP’s running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for his comments on Ghana’s first leader, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, which were deemed disrespectful.
Nana Arhin noted that Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s comparison of the achievements of Akufo-Addo’s government to those of Nkrumah was not entirely out of place, considering the fact that Nkrumah’s Convention People’s Party still exists and is vying for the favor of Ghanaian voters.
