The Presidency has clarified that Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo will be reinstated if the ongoing investigation into multiple petitions filed against her finds her not guilty.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, stated this on Original FM/TV’s Adwenekasa programme on Tuesday afternoon.
According to her, President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to suspend the Chief Justice follows the provisions laid out in Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution, after consultation with the Council of State.
A five-member committee has been tasked with investigating the allegations.
Shamima Muslim emphasized that President Mahama’s actions are in line with the Constitution and that the suspension is not a declaration of guilt, but a necessary procedural action to investigate serious claims.
The Presidency has dismissed claims that the President breached the Constitution, stressing that following the Constitution cannot be seen as problematic.
