Chiefs and elders of Akyem Kotoku State call for removal of Birim North DCE

The Chiefs and Elders of the Akyem Kotoku State have demanded the immediate removal of the Birim North District Chief Executive, Raymond Nana Damptey, from office.

At a press conference held at the Kotoku Palace in Akim Oda on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, the Chiefs and Elders accused Damptey of being behind several galamsey operations in the Ntronang enclave and other Kotoku towns in the Birim North District.

They presented pictures of one of his alleged galamsey sites by the roadside of the Ntronang town as evidence.

Nana Asiedu Akora, Ntronanghene, briefed the press, saying: “The DCE continues to undertake his galamsey operations undeterred, causing great damage to rivers and lands. He has consistently refused to honor invitations to meet with us and has shown disrespect to traditional authority.”

The Chiefs and Elders threatened to show President Nana Akufo-Addo and his government “red flags” if Damptey is not removed from office immediately.

This development comes despite the President’s condemnation of galamsey operations and the channeling of millions of cedis into fighting against it.
