Cholera: Our cities and towns must be cleaner – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern over the severe cholera outbreak that has plagued Ghana since October last year, affecting 118 districts across five regions.

As of February 17, 2025, the outbreak had recorded 6,300 suspected cases, 545 confirmed cases, and 49 deaths, prompting the government to launch an aggressive vaccination and public education campaign.

Presenting his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on Thursday, February 27, President Mahama noted that “Sanitation within the context of infectious disease outbreaks, personal hygiene and environmental sanitation must be a major priority.”

According to Mahama, the current state of cleanliness in cities and towns is unacceptable, they’ must be “cleaner than what is being delivered so far.”

President Mahama committed to “right the wrongs” through investments, supervision, and performance tracking to keep communities and cities clean.
