Some traders at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra have had their goods confiscated after defying the government’s directive to close shops and markets for the nationwide clean up exercise.
Officials from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly seized the wares on Friday morning after food vendors and hawkers were found selling during the first day of the National Clean Up Exercise despite a presidential directive ordering the temporary closure of shops and markets.
The directive was issued to encourage nationwide participation in the exercise aimed at improving sanitation and keeping communities clean.
However, some traders ignored the order and continued displaying their goods for sale. The AMA taskforce moved in to confiscate their wares as part of efforts to enforce compliance with the directive.
The exercise formed part of the government’s renewed efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and encourage public involvement in maintaining hygienic surroundings.
