Citizen Ato Dadzie Jabs NDC For Kicking Against EC’s Proposed New CI

Citizen Ato Dadzie, the GCPPs General Secretary, has backed the Electoral Commission’s proposal for a new Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) to replace the current Instrument (C.I.)  ahead of the 2024 election.

He claims that the two big parties are “obsessed with power” and do not support any measures that will make it more difficult for them to win elections.

Citizen Ato Dadzie  expressed concerns over the NDC’s penchant for challenging measures aimed at sanitising the country’s electoral system.

“We have had these discussions for a long time at IPAC. We the political parties that attend IPAC meetings know that at all times minors and foreigners swoop the EC,” Citizen Ato Dadzie told Kwaku Owusu Adjei(Patoo) on Adwenekasa on Accra-based Original FM91.9.

“The Election Commission has acknowledged that it is difficult to recognize people as citizens. Why should the Election Commission bother to define criteria for differentiating between citizens and non-citizens when the government has already established an agency to do that? he quizzed.

Citizen Ato Dadzie believes the Ghana Card is the best method for authenticating a person’s identification and that its adoption will assist prevent irregularities in the voter registration process and during elections.

He supported the EC’s suggestion, saying it would take someone with a clear mind to comprehend why the Commission wanted to adopt the Ghana Card as the exclusive form of identification for the 2024 elections.

He urged the EC’s critics to focus their efforts on pressuring the National Identification Authority (NIA) to produce and distribute identification cards for every Ghanaian before of the polls.

The Electoral Commission has proposed the use of Ghana Cards as the only form of identification and medium to qualify a Ghanaian citizen, who is eligible to vote, to be registered or enrolled onto the voters’ register.
